Moscow and All Russia on Tuesday, on the fortieth day since

The recently concluded military actions in South Ossetia
resulted in the death of hundreds of people -- both
peacekeepers and civilians. From the very outset of the tragic developments, Patriarch
Alexius called for peace and for praying for the victims. Lities for
the dead and requiem masses were said in Russian Orthodox Church
temples. Prayers for peace in the Caucasus were added to memorial
services.
More than 1,400 civilians have been killed during Georgia`s
attacks on the capital of South Ossetia, according to the region`s
authorities.
